Blue Earplugs

I got sick of my ugly earplugs which were discoloured from various things like paint so I thought I'd cover them in embroidery floss. I thought this would be an hour job.... but no this took me 5 hours, I couldn't wait to stop lol.

I can appreciate that!  I have had hair wraps put in that were full spirals!  And I knitted an icord cover for my earbuds too.  Nice!

I crocheted mine in pink but think I like this better! It looks fancier. Question though does your earplugs have the split and how did you knot around it and still make it look nice?

Thanks, I've seen both knitted and crocheted earplugs and loved them but I can't knit or crochet so had a go at this.

wicket-poo, yes my earplugs have the split, I used the whole floss bundle and pulled out a length of the whole cord from end to end then added approximately 6-7 times the length of the cord from the start of the split to the earbud. I tied the floss leaving the length next to the cord and started knotting over both the cord and floss. I ended up using 2 8m embroidery floss bundles for this, when I was about to run out I just tied the new bundle over the 2 bundles and cord, after a few knots I trimmed off the short floss and continued knotting as normal.

thanks so much for the tutorial! was wondering how you pulled it off with the split in the middle of the ear plugs. now off to try and make a set for myself with an extra set of ear plugs. Thanks again so much!

Thanks, have fun. The basic spiral technique is Chinese staircase and I first watched a youtube video to see how it was done.

I love it! Love the color you used too. I was thinking of doing the exact same thing with my earphones (got inspired by a chinese staircase friendship bracelet I got from a swap), but I'm still using a pair that has a crocheted cover. Once I get a new pair, I'm definitely doing this too. Yours came out really nice

That is awesome. I would never have thought of doing that to mine...maybe people would stop looking at me like I was nuts when I wrap my headphone cord around my neck if they thought it was just a necklace or something. Good idea!
