Owl I created in my pottery class last month.  I began with 2 slabs of clay, shaped as I wanted, & formed them around a wad of newspaper.  When he was leather hard, I carved in the details & added the eyes, wings, feet & branch.  After the first firing I painted him various colors. After the second firing I coated him entirely with a bronze glaze & refired. The result is about 9" tall.

Very cool.  I love the way the creases in the feathers are darkened with the glaze so you can really see all of the detail and texture.  Definitely a piece to be proud of.
