I designed a simple scarecrow that can that can be used in various ways for Fall decorating. The finished figure is about 18" tall & will either sit in a wreath or stand in a table arrangement. Before sewing the 2 gingerbread shaped pieces of fabric together, I sewed a tiny pocket to the back of his head UPSIDE DOWN. This allows me to insert a thin dowel rod up under his clothing & into the pocket so he can stand/sit upright. He is lightly stuffed with polyfil & his hair & straw are raveled jute cord. Each item of clothing is made from one or two pieces of fabric with unfinished edges & details such as pockets glued on. Fabric markers give him his features.

I pushed the end of the dowel rod into the wreath, slid it under his jacket & shirt, into the pocket on the back of his head & used 2 T pins pushed thru his "hip joints" & into the wreath to keep him seated. I then arranged the flowers/bow around him.

I used a clay flowerpot saucer for the base of the centerpiece version. I glued floral foam to the bottom of the saucer, pushed a dowel rod into it, & mounted the scarecrow on the dowel rod. With flowers arranged at the base, he makes a great centerpiece.
