The walmart closest to my house recently brought back fabric.. and with it? Simplicity's Sew Simple patterns which are only a dollar! I can always use a new light weight jacket or bolero to cover my shoulders, so I picked up Simplicity's Sew Sew Simple 1964 pattern.
The fabric is also from walmart, surprisingly, since it's super cute and walmart fabrics are usually ugly.   All in all, the pattern was in fact really easy to use.. although I did my own thing for a few elements of the jacket, I tend to stop reading directions after the second step.  As I was putting it together I was afraid that my chest was going to turn out to be too big, but it worked out and fits really well.

More pictures and thoughts on my process and things I changed about the pattern can be found on my blog: http://jordannhall.blogspot.com/2011/11/me-and-sewing-patterns.html

Well! I just moved and the town where I went to university had three walmarts and one of them still had a full size fabric section! So, I'm glad this walmart finally brought them back! This adorable fabric was $2/yard!! I might go back and buy more of it.

I have had SO many failed attempts at sewing with patterns, but I've done about 4 from the SewSimple line (including the one you posted here) and they all turned out GREAT!!   They all fit well (I never have luck with things coming out the right size with other patterns for some reason) and are SO EASY to make.

Well done!

Well, I liked this one so much that I went and got the full pattern package (Simplicity 2223, contains this one project along with all the variations) because I want to make the longer version.  I definitely recommend the Sew Simple line to anyone who is new to sewing patterns, because it was really easy to go straight through and not try to figure out where you're supposed to be based on what version of the pattern you're doing.  I wish Sew Simple had been out when I first started patterns!
