Thank you guys! This is absolutely a perfect way to finally use up some of the whimsies I've been hoarding for years, and still preserve them in a way where I can look at them all the time  Cheesy I highly suggest this for anyone whose in the same boat....the only problem now is I'm suffering from a whimsy shortage hah! Must restock!

Painting all of the whimsies one color really adds to the intrigue and interest of this.  It's like a super stylin' I Spy game!  I love it.  Thanks for pointing me to your blog, too!

This is so freaking cool!  While I admit, I would love to see a picture of everything before it was painted, I think the black and white really gives a gorgeous finish to the piece.

Thanks ladies for all the beautiful comments! I had someone else ask for before pictures which I didn't think to take of course - I'm slowly getting better at that though. The next time I do something like this (and I'm sure there will be a next time) I'll be sure to do so!  Grin I will say that although the crazy mix of colors was beautiful it was pretty distracting from the stencil pattern which is why a coat of paint is pretty essential to something like this. You might be able to get away with not painting it if the shape you're making is pretty simple but anything more complicated, and the design will be lost in the madness of color and texture.
