I'm excited about embroidery! In July I learned a handful of stitches from Acadian Driftwood, and immediately started this project - she even lent me the hoop. Here it is in all its glory: I give you Calvin and Hobbes.

Here's the image I took it from, part of the header in the sunday comics from the Burlington Free Press. I LOVE the comics - they're what made getting up for school nearly bearable.

I enlarged it by hand (from ~3" to about 8") using a grid technique I learned in high school:

Here it is all stitched in, waiting for color. I used back stitch and a bit of satin stitch.

And then I added color. I think filling in the stripes on Hobbes helped me build character. Roll Eyes I took a lot of process pics along the way, just in case I didn't like what I ended up with after a certain stage. This was pretty much all satin stitch, and for the background at the end I used seed stitch. I thankfully am quite happy with the end result.

And the back:

Thanks for looking! C&C welcome.
I hope I did you proud, Acadian Driftwood Grin

There's not much in this world that can't be improved by either chocolate, bacon or glitter.
