I found this wonderful nautical anchor material in the 80% clearance stash at Joann's so there was no way I could pass it up. My friend had been bugging me to make her a dress forever and I knew this was exactly her style. It was made without a pattern for those looking for it.

I took these pictures before the dress was ironed. It needs to be done severely. Pictures with her sporting it will be on next week.

SO cute!! I am completely in LOVE with the material! You are so lucky to find something so cute at Joanns! Everytime I go looking for cute things it's impossible to find, and when i do it's usually about a yard or less so I can't do anything with it!! It's adorable!
It looks so professional. How did you do it without a pattern? Just guess and check or did you create your own? A tutorial for this would be awesome, i've been looking to make a similar dress. Great job!!

This is such a nice dress Smiley I love the vintage-y feel you went for, it goes really well with the fabric. Awesome stuff!!!

I knew the general shape I was looking for and so after I measured my friend I knew that it would need to be form fitting so I made darts in the front. The collar came next and to make them it was simpler than I thought it would. I cut (2) 3 inch strips and on one end I sewed an angle, then I turned it inside out. I overlapped the two pieces slightly and then sewed them all the way around. Added a lining and then attached a simple gathered skirt. I did a blind hem on the bottom. The dress looks very complicated and professional but it is actually really simple

Ill make a video tutorial if I get enough requests

Ohh my god you're so sweet! Hahah thanks for making a video just for me! If it's really just for me, no rush to do it tonight haha whenever you have time would be fantastic. I'm in the process of making a princess Tiana dress and a prince Naveen jacket, so I won't have time for actual clothing projects for a few weeks haha.
