EDIT: I've finished the dress and my prince Naveen jacket.
Pictures can be found in this post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=392904.msg4655956#msg4655956

Hello! My boyfriend and I's (that's not grammatically correct is it?) one year anniversary is coming up this october and we've decided to go to "Mickey's Halloween Party" at Disneyland. The only month where I can dress up! (If you're over 9 you're not allowed usually).
I decided to make a princess tiana dress for myself as well as create a Prince Naveen jacket for him. So far I've finished the top of my dress. Once I figure out how to make the "leaves" for the skirt I can attach the two and be done with it!
Anyway here is the finished top (yet to be sewn to the skirt...also I need to put some wire in the middle "leaf" because it keeps flopping down, as it is in the picture)

The Front:

The Back:

Please excuse the PJ's and the terrible quality of the photos. I have no idea where my real camera is, so my roommate took it on their phone.
C&C appreciated!

I think its really to prevent confusion on the part of kids and (of course) trademarked property control: they have costumed characters in the parks pretty much all the time and when there's another adult dressed up like, say, a princess, the kids might think that that adult is sanctioned by Disney.

I've heard stories of them actually turning away a woman dressed as a princess. Of course the story is that it was her birthday and she'd been celebrating pretty hard before even getting to the park, so they may just not have wanted a drunken princess.

The bodice looks great! and I think the Pajamas add to the picture, but then again I'm a Batman Fan.  Cheesy

Haha yeah they don't want the kids getting confused. And on the back of the special halloween party ticket it says that you're not allowed to give autographs or take photos with people. Like with little kids who think your a princess, obviously you can take pictures with you and your friends. But I think they would turn you away or ask you to change before coming in the park.
And I've thought about joining the cosplay community but i think it's more special and exciting when it's only once a year.
I'm also a big batman fan. My dad actually bought these pjs on (what i think was..) the WB lot when working on a batman movie years ago. They're my favorite!

Been thinknig about the petals (when I should be working)

I make a doll with a petal skirt and I (not wanting to hem weird angles and curves) sewed two pieces of fabric for the shape, turned them and then topstitched.  It would mean a bunch more material, but then you wouldn't have to hem.

Haha sorry for distracting you from your work!
But thank you! That's really helpful. That's actually exactly what I did for the top. The three leaves in the middle are two pieces of really thin fabric sewn together in that shape, turned but not top stitched. I thought about doing that though, hoping it would give it more stability but decided against it because I just hate working with that material haha.

For the petals on the skirt I was thinking of doing it the same way to avoid hemming. I avoid hemming whenever possible. I've become obsessed with bias tape and lining. I did hem the base skirt that all the fancy petals will be resting on and it turned out horribly.

I'd suggest using long zip ties in the top instead of wire. Less chance to poke through, and won't be as visible, but they add just as much stability.

Ohh zip ties? I've never thought of that. How would I use zip ties? I'm assuming they're not sew-able so just make a channel? I can't think of the word, but I think channel works for it. haha

Yeah, just sew a channel for them. They also come in different widths so you can pick the one that suits your project best.
