Mr Potts is a ceramic owl I created last month in my pottery class.  I've been taking lessons now for nearly 2 years but only once a week during the summer months---wish it were every day.  I love creating with clay & find it the most satisfying medium I've ever worked with.

I began by forming the body around a wad of newspaper using 2 slabs of clay.  When it was leather hard, I carved in the details and added the eyes, beak, wings, feet & tree branch made from separate pieces of clay.  After the first firing, I painted him with various colored glazes.  I refired him, coated him entirely with a bronze glaze & fired him a third time.  I'm very happy with the finished piece which stands about 9" tall.

AWWWW.....HE'S SO CUTE AND SHINY!!!!! If he had cheeks, I would pinch them.

As you can see, I LOVE owls. Cheesy He has a very clever name, too. This totally inspires me to make a beaded owl!!!! I'd try pottery, but as you can tell from my challenge entry, I'm currently hooked on beads. Plus, this little guy is definitely unique. Smiley

Thank you for the description of how you made him - that is much more complicated than I would want to try. Or be able to do.
You have quite an attention for details.

I love owls too.  Your owl is very detailed!  I especially like his tummy? area.
