I got the idea to use my old writing journal in my altered journal book from, "The Art Journal Workshop," by Traci Bunkers. This book is really awesome.

Anyway, I use my old writing journal pages as the first layer of collage in my altered journal. I love taking the old and depressing and turning it onto something new and beautiful.

All of these pages have encyclopedia pages as the base layer, then old writing journal pages as the 2nd layer. The journal pages have been torn and glued down, then I went over them with craft acrylic paints or good acrylic paints. The paint, on most of the pages, was applied with a credit card.

Here is my journal:

Just Be Yourself
This page has some purple candle wax dripped onto it then stamped with some random things.

Celebrate the Journey
This page was actually created first. I wanted to use my old writing journal pages as the base for where I am now, which is right where I want to be. I wouldn't be me without all that has passed, but I don't need to dwell on it. So

This is just some interesting pictures found in magazines.

Squares of History
I created this page using credit cards cut to different widths. Then I went back and free wrote about the first chapter I read for my history class. History is depressing.

More fun imagines from magazines.

Emma really likes Furn Gully, I used the picture from the DVD cover. I also have a fun picture of Emma and Jared hiking from a while ago. I thought it fit nicely with the message from Furn Gully.

Change is Good
More wax fun, hearts cut from a scrap page from my September altered journal, and my ticket from the play I saw with my sister and her sisters-in-law when we took a mom getaway to Florida 4 years ago.

First Lady
This is the first person I have ever painted. It was a little ridiculous how excited I was that she turn out. You can read about that here. http://kaotickrafter.blogspot.com/2011/09/woop-and-swoop-and-lady.html

More fun images.

In progress

Random tree and person painted.

Mostly blank. I realized the encyclopedia page had bikes on it, so I decided to collage around that and make sure that we could see it.

And another fun painted lady.

That is about it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

I love this, all the different colors and images just because, and the fact that your old journals are depressing.  I find that is what stops me from doing them now.  I want the movement of emotion OUT that occurs, but I'm not sure I want to keep what's created.

Very inspiring work!
