SEPTEMBER GRANNY-A-DAY
This is basically a motivation crochetalong. If you want to work on a granny square, motif, one huge granny square blanket, this is a great way to set aside time everyday to get some serious work completed in an attainable amount of time.
People have come up with some really neat uses for grannys too! Different bags and blankets, shopping sack holder, slippers, scarves, a nifty pullover etc. I have made 7" grannys and after a month I have 30 squares that make a perfect size throw blanket.
If you are intrested and would like to join we would love to see your work! Post pics of progress and then at the end of the month post a pic of al that you accomplished! It would be great if everyone could post progress weekly (but not required). At the end of the month we can piece together our work and show off our afghans and Inga bags and whatever else you can come up with to make with nifty grannies! (Must post a completed project or progress pic in this thread.)
You can find many of the other threads in the crochet-a-long section to see how we have done it before!

Hello September and granny lovers!
Back from our Vermont trip and I made sure to stimulate the economy by buying as much as I could
as well as make a few grannys during the down time. Here is the Eight Color throw by Lion Brand I started, with a few color changes, and two of the balls of chunky yarn I loved and had to have from a cool yarn store in Montpelier.
Last months granny is almost done, only eight more half grannys to go, but I will wait for the completed project to get a new pic.

kind of a long story how I came to work on them (feel free to read about it here - >
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=390192.msg4619419#msg4619419
) but i can appreciate waht you are doing and love the pics so far
some people have great ideas for color varieties when it come to granny squares
I love it!
OH! And if you want a few options of how to connect the squares this blog was an excellent source

Hey gang! I'm back in this month, and working on an entirely new project. I'm making at least one granny blanket (hopefully two, but I'm going to try to keep my enthusiasm reasonable... that way I'm not disappointed if I can't get the second one done by the end of the month!) to send to the Austin, Tx area.
There is a group of quilters working on a quilt drive for all of the kids who have lost their homes in the fires this month, and I want to join in... but my sewing skills are on the shaky side, so I figured I'd go with what I know, and that is YARN!
I'm waiting on a response from the quilting groups as far as whether they will distribute other blankets as well, or just quilts. BUT, I have an aunt in Dripping Springs who is willing to take anything I send her to the Austin Red Cross for distribution. So either way, what gets made will get to displaced residents.
I started on my lunch break today, and I have two nine and a half inch squares done, and one more at the halfway mark. They're wanting the finished blankets to be at least 45" x 60", so I've got quite a bit more work to do!

I got tired of my current projects last night, and made 8 more granny squares, and a few more started. I have a craft fair coming up (beginning of November), and i'm mostly just focusing on stuff for that right now. The granny squares are for when i can't look at my other projects for another second.

I've got an Inga bag that needs 10 little grannies made for it and then stitched together...but I've been clicking away on granny stripe monster afghans...one in rug yarn. I've done all I can until I scrounge up some more second hand to get the length I need for it.
The other is a greens/white afghan I've been working on for some time...it's been waiting for me get R done!!
Nice to hear from peeps and what everyone is doing!! I'll add pics shortly!

What I had done before:
What I added last night:
I think I'll use the granny stripe joining method (I really can't remember the name of it right now), and I think I'll use a chocolate brown for it.
Also, should I keep to the smaller squares with three levels, or go for four? I kind of want to keep it at three since I'm using three colors, but I can't decide yet.

I love the colors you are using, Bananaleg! I like it on the simple side, too! =]
Here's what kept me busy for the first week of September:
set aside while on the hunt for more thrifted rug yarn. I'm working on a greens/white one, now.

That would look perfect in my spare room Bananaleg! Cant wait to see it finished.
Hooray for thrifty yarn afghans V. looks great!
I have to take a granny hiatus until the end of the month, I had a birthday request from my cousin for an afghan. I have 16 rows started of a Florentine Bargello afghan in some of her favorite colors so that is what she is getting.
Pray for me to finish in time please!

Love that pattern M.!! I've done part of one of those until I ran out of yarn for it. The piece I did finish is on the back of a loveseat in the basement. I hope that you make it in time...that's a lot of stitching! I hope to do another for a friend next year for her birthday in purple, black, grey, and white!

Update on my progress so far:
I did get confirmation that the quilting group WILL accept crocheted afghans as well as quilts for the blanket drive, so I'm continuing work on that. I'm up to 5 finished squares so far.
I'm also working on my Dad's blanket, which I had to set aside over the summer. It was way too hot to work on when it's over a hundred degrees outside-LOL! That one is big enough to completely cover the top of a king sized bed, so I only have about a foot left to go on it before I can give it to Dad. His birthday is in November, so if I can finish it before then I'll be a happy camper.
Glad to see everyone's progress! I'll try to get pictures up at some point soon.

Hi, I havent joined in on any of these before, despite having made two crochet square blankets already. This is the one I am working on at the moment for my brothers girlfriend.
I am also working on a pastel coloured blanket for my mum but haven't done as much on that one yet.
Each blanket will have 70 squares.

That1girl...can't wait to see your finished blanket...your squares are lovely!
KismetFyrechyld: can't wait to see your finished Dad blanket!! =] You can do it!
Here's my latest...a baby-doll's blanket. I'm using up little bits of yarn. Also have a larger one in the same color scheme nearly finished, too.

Clahup, What a beautiful afghan that will be! so bright, cheery, and interesting to look at.
V., Those colors will be striking for your friends birthday blanket. Very cute dolly blanket. I bet the large one is quite something to see too.

Thank you, M....=] Baby doll blankie isn't much larger, but the yarn is used up!
Baby blanket:
used final bits of yarn for a (not-quite-finished) square motif that I applied to my scrappy granny stripe:
I'm working off-and-on a green/white granny stripe, but have several more rows till that one is done. I see final pic in October. Here are some squares that are using up some green/white and pink yarns...in a Babette-type afghan(work in progress...need more pink!) I apologize for the poor picture quality and any headaches you get from it...

I finished my afghan with time to spare so I am back to sewing my grannys together and yesterday I started some floral blocks for my sisters garden themed throw.
I should really be working on my Halloween granny though...

Great slippers Rogneta! they look very comfy.
Granny from August completed last night. WOOT!
This is the one DH picked the colors for and at first I was not a fan but now it's growing on me.
Hope everyone has a great October!

Wow, you guys have been doing some amazing squares! I keep seeing so many different, interesting, and fun squares. When i get home, i'm going to switch up my squares. I thought my blanket would just be straightforward granny squares, but not anymore!

Rogneta...CuTe slipper booties!! Great idea for using up Grannies Daughters...=]
BennuBird...nicely done blanket...it looks great the way you've used the colors and pattern! =]
Sorry to be MIA...I DiD finally get to MN to visit DS, grandbaby, and would be DiL! I was able to make DS some curtains, play w/GD, take pics, visit downtown Minneapolis, cook, do dishes, and finish a knit scarf. Also read a book about John Wayne...=] I've finally started a granny blanket for a friend of a friend's upcoming birth of a baby girl...another Around the Block in Pink/White. Pics to come next weekend. I'm going to visit Cleveland w/DH next week w/
plenty
of time for stitching! =]
