The best themed party I ever had was a Dr. Seuss party.
It was great I made deviled eggs and dyed the yokes green to serve with cubed ham.  Somebody brought a brownie who beast ! Everyone dressed in bright clothese with weird patterns.
It's not really a theme but I also really enjoy clothing exchange parties.

my roommate & i had a make-your-own sushi party - we provided the rice & seaweed & people had to bring what they wanted inside.  that worked well since we have a mixed group of friends: from meat eaters to vegans.  i collect dishes so the round platters were veggie & the oval ones were meat.
we tried to make it black-tie so i could wear my 50's lucille ball dress & my roommate could wear her brown 60's dress, but most people pretended they didn't know it was dress-up.... even though the invite said black-tie...

A friend of mine threw a gender swap party.  It was so funny since a lot of us were/are couples and we just sorta switched clothes.  I wore my husbands standard outfit and looked like a cute guy but seeing him squeeze into one of my skirts and stuff a bra and stretch out my shirts was freakin' hilarious.

I love theme parties!! I've had lots of themes, but most pretty normal(luau's, holidays, etc). Our most creative party was our "Space Party". I ordered a whole bunch of radom things from oriental trading-little alien necklaces, glow stars, blow up aliens-& found a bunch of other crazy things that would glow in the dark & expanding brains & such. We also bought a bunch of rope lights. It was crazy. Our living room was completely transformed with the rope lights & black lights & glow in the dark stuff, body parts in jars & space men hiding everywhere!! It was trippy, but everyone loved it!

I've found an excellent way to force people to adhere to a theme is to send invatations that say you reserve the right to dress up anyone yourself who comes without a costume.

I saw something really cool on DIY.  It was a Cirge de Dessert party.  They made a bunch of desserts and all the decorations were circus themed.  It was pretty neat.

What about a what you wanted to be when you grew up party?  Think of all the astronauts and ballerinas that would show up.

Three words....."Pimp and Ho"
We had one of these a few summers ago and everyone had to dress up as a um...."working gals" or a pimp...it was a blast especially when the guys dressed up as the hookers!
We bought fake money from the dollar store and decorated everything with it, and passed it around the whole party!

bed parties - people come in pajamas and you have matresses all dressed up pretty in the main party room with lots of funky pillows... you can read naughty bedtime stories - or mad libs - have cookies and milk (alcoholic versions too)- and have fun in the bedroom

I went to a party a while back where the theme was "come as your true self."

It was hysterically funny becasue some people went completely over the top dressed as clowns, cats, porn stars... but some people didn't dress up at all, and an accountant guys who was there - this guys is the quintessential stereotype of an accountant, with this really dry sense of humour - he wore odd socks and asked that we don't tell his dad.

I wore my favourite wings, my favourite tiara, stained my skin pale blue and glittered up big time  Cool

My sister had a party with the rather vague theme of "electricity"...she covered all the walls of her apartment in tinfoil and white (clear) christmas lights, and people dressed up in their version of "electricity"...you could have a lightbulb over your head, come as static cling (stick socks all over yourself) or as a robot or whatever strikes your fancy.  She served "electric koolaid"
