I've been working some more on my cardboard houses, when the sun comes back I might take some more pics but in the meantime, I just say this: http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-a-Gingerbread-Brownstone/ since one gingerbread house had already been adapted i thought maybe this might be of interest. Cheesy

http://www.celebrating-christmas.com/recipes/gingerbread-house.shtml < some more here, too the bottom.

Outside of the house is half way finished. It needs the roof details and all the fun added details.

I glued posterboard planks on so that it would give the old boards look, painted everything grey. Added Crackle Medium. Then painted white on the boards. Cheesy
The bricks on the chimney are cork. I painted them black and took a sponge brush and dabbed on red.
The stain on the wood is chocolate syrup and water. It gets darker as it dries too! I also did a wash of that over the WHOLE outside of the house to give an older, dirtier look.
I am pleased so far.

You should be pleased!  I love all of your finishes and textures...and that you added much more porch!  It is a fantastic house...

sheepblue...I love how you find stuff and rethink it...a cigar dome...genius!

I love your bead lamp as well...what a lovely gift...I definitely would not use spackle on anything paper...I use it for tile and also for plaster walls, but your puff paint idea for mortar is pretty great!

I can't wait to work on my little house after the holidays..

I should have mentioned I bought the house from Pat Catan's and it was just a wooden all closed house. I cut the back off and used the back wall for the second story floor.

I gotta tell you guys though, I have one of Knicker's mushroom domes and it's really incredibly teensy, smaller than you think...

I know! I saw them at the Knickertwist studio open house last weekend, and I can't keep from trying to tell people how really, unbelievably small they actually are!

SKooKum, your cork bricks work very well. It reminds me that I have a roll of very thin cork sheeting tucked away somewhere. It's exactly the right thickness to do a veneer of bricks. I wonder where it could be.

Sometime in the next month or so I'm finally going to be able to start moving stuff from the storage unit back into the house, and I'm sure I'll find it then. (Along with a lot of other things I've forgotten about.)
