Calling all budding Space explorers! Come and join the Space Race! Smiley

So the basic idea of this swap is that in each partnership, one partner would be "Russia" with the other one playing "America" in the Space Race. With Send outs on April 12th (points if you can tell me why!) each partnership will craft items based on 3 or more missions that took place on their country's behalf with the aim of each partner being to send out first, gaining a point for their country! At the end of the swap, the points would be tallied and the winning country of the "Space 'Craft' race" announced at the end of the swap. Smiley

Some possible key dates might be;

12 April 1961   First manned spaceflight (Yuri Gagarin)  USSR

7 March 1962   First orbital solar observatory  USA (NASA)

16 June 1963   First woman in space (Valentina Tereshkova)  USSR

21 July 1969   First human on the Moon and first space launch from a celestial body     USA

15 July 1975   First multinational manned mission     USSR   USA (NASA)   Apollo-Soyuz Test Project

So... What'dya think? Sign-ups 12th-24th Feb 2012?

Ahhh I LOVE LOVE LOVE retro space and sci-fi stuff. But... I want to be on the Russian team and get Russian space crafts... (You know who's side I'm on! haha).

Did you have any ideas for crafts, that might get people more interested?  I did a search through the swap forums and didn't even find another swap that was space themed?

I have a few ideas of stuff I can make, personally I'm thinking vintage propaganda posters and retro style rockets... (But I am re-decorating my bedroom right now, in an outer space theme so I'm already in a space mindset)

Ill weave your names into my ribcage; lock your hearts inside my chest.
Regain the passion I once carried; do away with all the rest.
I tore the sickness from your bodies; smashed its head against the bricks.
I made a castle from its bones that you may always dwell in it.

You could do things themed on your specific country, or perhaps rocket/ space themed. Tees or posters would be great, possibly Glow in the dark stars!
Here are some space themed crafts from Craftster or Etsy, which could be suitable!

Let me know if you find any more to add to the list!
