first of all, hi!  my name is sarah and i reside in venice, california.  i love all of you craftsters and i'm excited to make my first crafty post, even if it's no big deal!  huzza!

i made these guys out of fimo clay and i think they're quite pretty. i made a cane based on how i make actual maki sushi, and gave the rice some texture with a needle, although you can't see any detail in these pictures, unfortunately!  i apologize for the mediocre photo quality.  let me know what you think!

and if that isn't enough, here's a picture i couldn't resist taking of my boyfriend sleeping in my bed.

good night and thanks for looking!!

that is a freaking awesome idea. and honestly even though the pics are far away you can still tell that they are cute....cute enough for me to almost want to finally figure out what fimo clay is and how to use it to make something similar even though I sadly cant wear earrings like those (*half-hearted cheer for large spacers*)

thanks so much guys!!!  i wanted 6 pieces total so that it'd be like, a full serving of california rolls!
plus, it looked better Cheesy

i'd never even messed with fimo clay until i got this idea, it's pretty easy, but a tad bit time consuming to shape them nicely.

> I'm awful with fimo, I almost always overbake it. <

Skerri13, this probably isn't your fault ... there are just a few things to know so that doesn't happen.
The first is that if you're actually using Sculpey brand polymer clay, it will brown more easily and needs to be baked at a lower temp.
Also many ovens don't bake at the temp they say they're baking at on the dial, so an oven thermometer is essential --or there are ways to test your oven for overall temp and hot spots with rectangles of thin clay (or even bread to some extent for hot spots).  Always thoroughly preheat your oven before putting clay in, and don't use a "self-cleaning" oven ("continuous cleaning" toaster ovens are okay.
Also, don't bake too close to any oven coils or sides.

There's much more info on how to bake polymer clays on this page, if you want to get more details on the things above, and more:
http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/baking.htm

Don't give up!!

Skerri13, I just noticed I have a link for you at my polymer clay website ... so you couldn't be too bad with clay!
http://shala.addr.com/polyclay/index.htm
Cute box... hadn't seen one with a corded closure quite like that before.

Btw, the polymerclayinterest yahoogroup is now called Polymer_Clay_People (so the other name doesn't work)....your link to it now just seems to take me to the main yahoogroups page.  Here's the new link to the group if you want to change it:

those are great!!  Cheesy

i have some leftover fimo clay from a swap i'm just finishing, so i decided to start small and make "cocktail beads."  i made green olives using a putrid green and hot pink (for the pimento), little wedges of lime (a darker shade of lime green, more like the real lime's lime green).  i'm trying to think of what else? oh yeah, celery sticks!  gotta have celery for a bloody mary.  and i think i may do rings of lemon and then either make a bracelet or earrings from them all.  the only ones i have left to make are the lemon rings.  so...

hmm anyway i love the sushi earrings!

so did you use white clay and just poke at it for texture?  i read one of the fimo sushi sites and they say to use all this other stuff. i want to keep it cheap and simple.  so how EXACTLY did you get yours to look like that? i love it!!

Yes. In stretched ears.. thats what I was saying haha.  Except the outside has to be covered in something compatible with bodies {thinking}... my boys a piercer so hed kick my butt for putting fimo straight into my ears (its bad! don't do it! heheh)

i used a small pin to poke holes for the rice texture.  i'm planning on making some better ones now that i've gotten to know polymer clay better!  i encourage your experimentation, with any tools you may find!  be creative!  Cheesy

Forget the earrings, your boyfriend is adorable! Will he be angry when he finds out you posted a picture of him sleeping on the internet? Don't worry, I wouldn't dream of stealing your guy, but you'd better guard those earrings Roll Eyes

He was a tad perturbed at first but he got over it.  Then again I didn't give him much of a say..  It could have been worse.  I do have much funnier pictures of him sleeping.
