I was intrigued by the chickenscratch Christmas trees on NeedleNThread (http://www.needlenthread.com/2009/10/hand-embroidery-on-gingham-christmas.html) so I went off the skeleton for the design that they posted.

This is my first go at counted-type work, and actually I messed up and didn't account for the trunk, so I had to kinda make it up a bit. Smiley Two strands of cotton floss on a gingham dish towel from Hy-Vee.

Artistic close up shot. Cheesy

I found it a bit hard to keep the back neat on this but I did my best to not carry threads too much. I used a doubled single strand throughout, so I could start with no knots, but I think next time I would use 3 strands to make the stitches thicker/bulkier so they really stood out.

Sadly, I can't find anymore of these gingham towels anywhere. I knew I should have bought more than one that day. I'll just have to keep looking, since I'd kinda like to make one for my husband's mom and grandma for Christmas as well.

I found some at Big Lots here in our town - maybe you have a Big Lots around there?  Sometimes these type towels are at the Dollar Stores too - good luck.  I like your tree towel.   Smiley

Hm. No Big Lots (I live in a smallish town in Iowa right now) but the Dollar Store we do have. I think we even have a Dollar General as well. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the idea! Smiley

Thanks! I'd definitely recommend it as a present--it's a quick project so you can make several very easily! Smiley I'm giving my mom hers over Thanksgiving since we'll be at my husband's parents' over Christmas.
