A Very Harry Bouquet
«
on:
August 15, 2011 08:47:07 PM »
My boyfriend and I are getting married at the beginning of next year and I've been playing with ideas for a non-plant bouquet. There are lots of beautiful ideas out there for fabric and paper flowers so I decided to try this one
http://www.100layercake.com/blog/2011/07/22/diy-storybook-paper-roses/
Nothing seemed more appropriate than Harry Potter for me, so I used a thrift-store copy of Philosopher's Stone.
Hope you guys enjoy - lemme know what you think?

Lovely. I look forward to seeing a picture of you all dressed up and carrying the bouquet on your wedding day.

This really looks SO great!
If I wanted to try this, do you have any advice on paper thickness?

i love it! have you considered adding a little color to them? i imagine painting the pages prior with splotchy watercolors would make quite a statement.

Lovely!
You could also make bouquets for your attendants in your colors! Just use a thin wash of watercolor on the book pages and then proceed!
These will have more meaning to you on your special day!
Also, for the colored ones I made, I crinkled up the paper so that the watercolor settled in and makes the flowers look more realistic!

Lovely idea! I've been meaning to learn to make paper roses for a while now, I must try it out.

Colour is a good idea - thanks to those who suggested. The only problem with that is... we really don't have colours so I wouldn't know what to do.
Lillie -
The tutorial I used calls for a thinner paper to curl the edges with, but then you'll want a thicker paper as you attach to the wires with hot glue, unless you're ok with burning your fingers.

well then get some colors, girlie! the flowers really are lovely on their own, but hold them in front of something white (like a wedding dress) and they might disappear. they don't have to be wedding colors, but maybe just flower colors? just try some dark reds and golden yellow and see what happens.

Thanks jo_mama! Though I'm still just as useless as far as colours go, I never even thought about the flowers blending in with my dress - good thinking
