Vintage undies make good patterns...

So the other day the ladies of my family and I went shopping on Ottawa St. in Hamilton (where all the best fabric shops are) and I ended up buying a LOT. We came across a vintage store that was selling underwear from the fifties that were in amazing shape and had a great classic cut. I bought a pair and used them as reference to make a crazy update of my own... and this is how they turned out! I'm rather pleased with the end result, these are so soft and comfortable. I must make some more!

The fabric I used was a super soft and stretchy lace end from Fabricland that I got for $3/metre. I have already made a pair of leggings from them last night and I am in love. The bow is something I whipped together out of some fluorescent orange lace I had laying around.

Say what you will about high-waisted underwear, but I think these are some pretty sexy granny panties.

They look great! The only pair I ever made ended up so saggy that it was a good job I was wearing trousers !

Do you have to line the crotch with something to make them...uh...breatha ble? 

Also, what type of elastic did you use?

I think they turned out cute!  They would be perfect under a skirt!

Ah, but of course, haha. Funny that you ask, I actually cut out and used the lining from a pair of undies I already owned but never wore because the elastic in the waist was extremely uncomfortable.

I actually didn't use any elastic with these. The material is stretchy enough that they hold up pretty well and so far I haven't run into any problems. I just made sure to use a zigzag stitch around the waist and leg holes. Hopefully the lack of elastic won't give me any issues after the first wear

ha ha thanks for sharing the info!  It is great that so many people share the experiences and try things out first!

let us know how they hold up and if there are any changes you would make...I was hoping there was no elastic...this makes it even more tempting to try!
