I have a former professor who has always been very generous - he's written me numerous letters of recommendation (some even at fairly late notice), was my mentor throughout college, and taught me numerous classes. I took trips with him and groups of students.
His signature is a bow tie. He's known throughout the English department for it. His favorite book is Moby Dick, so when I found some silk White Whale fabric on Etsy, I knew I wanted to make him a bow tie. However, I didn't know his size, and when I asked, he wouldn't tell me because he didn't want me to get him anything as thanks.
So the other day at Macy's I found an adjustable bow tie on sale for $4 so I bought it and used it as the template.
Here's my attempt to tie it:
The adjustable part is with buttons. I figure it will be under a collar so they won't be noticeable or he could snip off the ones he doesn't need.
Any comments appreciated! Thanks for looking.
