I was just thinking random thoughts while surfing craftster when this idea came to me.  Wouldn't it be amazing for there to be businesses who basically had a store space equipped with all sorts of crafting equipment that you could pay a small fee to use?  Similar to the idea of community recreation centres but for crafts?  I just find that craftster makes me want to try SOOO many different things but I just don't have the space to store a sewing machine, serger, scrapbook cutters, badge makers, spinning wheels, etc, if I'm probably only ever going to use them a few times.  And the urge to craft hits me at the most random times so it's not as if I can just head over to a friend's place without warning to whip up a quick jordy.

I just picture a place where all the equipment I could need is there and I just bring my supplies to and from.  The idea wouldn't really be practical for people working on "big" projects, like a quilt, but for those people who get the urge to try something new or who really don't have the space for stuff in their home it could be useful.  And imagine, you wouldn't have to worry about cleaning up those stupid little scraps afterwards...that would be someone else's job!!!   Wink

To be honest, I'm not sure if some city already has something along these lines but they don't exist near me.  If you know of any, let me know, I MAY have to move there.   Cheesy

This would be such a good idea!!!  I love to try new things but can't always because of the high cost of the initial equipment.  This way you could find out if you really enjoy something and really want to invest in your own equipment.

That is what I am doing!!!!  My husband thinks it's a horrible idea, but there is nothing like that in my area. Iwill have classes, but also open studio time where people can use all of the equipment.
It should be up at the end of the year in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
I KNEW someone else would go for the idea!

HeyVern!!!  When your business is up and running let the other Craftsters know!  I can't exactly make a trip down to Fort Lauderdale from Canada SPECIFICALLY to visit your store but my friends go to FL all the time, maybe this will convince me to go as well.

You're so lucky!  I would LOVE to start something like this in my area but, ahem, I'm 24 and I don't think finding venture capital would be too easy for me.   Undecided

I will.  I have been saving $ for about 10 years.  I'm 29  and I finally have a respectable savings.

Viva la craft.

What a cool idea!!! I'm forever thinking that I want to try new crafts, but I hate the thought of spending alot of money on something that I may not like...

That sounds really cool!  But if someone breaks the equipment without telling someone, how would they know who to charge?

There is a place like this in Somerville, MA I've never been but I've heard good things.  Someday I'll be in one place long enough to visit!   http://www.sparkcrafts.com/
