This blankie has been forever in the making, and when I finally got it done, it rained solid for a fortnight before I could get a picture outside!
It's bog standard granny squares - 280 of them to be exact!!!
and it's lined with a shell stitch - bit of a dodgy close up underneath:
A bit of background...
My house mate and I have foul mouths (there - I said it, and I'm proud!!), but she is considerably worse than me, and so I decided she deserved a reward for Christmas. We have a tradition where I always make something hand made along with the usual presents, and after having the wool sat around for the best part of six months, I thought I'd better make a start.
Originally it was going to be black with grey writing, but then she decided that she wanted it the other way round (bless her
). 'That's fine' I said - 'no problem!'. Then I realised I wouldn't have enough, and after procrastinating for so long, I found out that they had discontinued it in the mean time !! (note to self - start a blinking project, and try to finish it in the same year!!!!) So after months of hunting, I finally found somewhere that stocked it, and tried to order it - I cleaned them out!!
Which isn't so good when I realised I mis-counted and actually needed MORE!!
So, to cut a long story short, there are three different batches of grey in there, and in real life, it almost has a tetris look (not that there's anything wrong with tetris - it's great! If that's what you want!)
It ended up being a few rounds smaller than I wanted because of all that, but I suppose that's no bad thing - it only just fits in the washer as it is, and is way bigger than a king size bed, and is even too big to hang on the line and get a proper picture!!
I'm planning on making one for myself, when I can face a granny square in the face again, so the challenge for a blankie-worthy phrase is on! (any suggestions greatly appreciated!!)
Thanks for looking, and as always, c and c's always appreciated!!
