After much indecision on whether i would make my prom dress or not I finally decided to get to work and make a dress and art project all in one. The thought of sewing a traditional dress with a complex pattern makes me want to quit before even starting. So after i searched the web i decided to use my love of magazines and make a dress that way.

inspirations:

violentjayne's lovely blue circle dress inspired me to go with the circle motif

With much help from my lovely mother we sewed a base dress that was supposed to be simple but somehow still got the best of me. Eventually we got it to fit right and i began sewing the many circles on in rows. the cirlces were cut using my handy fiskars circle cutter then i covered them with contact paper and cut them out again. i didnt time the whole process but i am guessing at least 30 hours were put into this dress and over a thousand circles.

the dress was a suprise for my date/best friend. he knew that i was making my dress but didnt know what it was going to look like at all. He really really really loved it!

getting into the car proved to be pretty difficult, and by the end of the night many of the circles were folded and crinkled, but no major disasters

my awesome mother made a tulle skirt to go underneath. by the time we decided we needed the extra body i was too stressed to think about the details.

overall the night was a grand time and i am very pleased with the outcome of the dress. It got many good reviews and i made the local paper which was fun. I am wanting to make another one with black and white magazine pages but haven't conjurred up the motivation needed yet. hopefully there will be more to come.
