I'm getting married October 29th (or at least thats the ceremony, actually paper signing is on the 31st since its our anniversary). Its technically a fall wedding though I live in Louisiana and other than some dropped leaves much will still be green. Our wedding and reception are outside and we have a really great venue.

Its a small wedding with no wedding parties. So I don't have any bridesmaids dresses to worry about. We are diy-ing pretty much everything. All of the color will be in the decor. I haven't been able to settle on a color sceme yet. I know I shouldn't go with really pastel spring colors but I don't want the red and oranges associated with fall. So these are the colors I'm thinking...

Sunflower yellow and dark and light shades of purple/lavender.
What do you think? Is it appropriate for fall?

my husband was in a wedding last fall (10.10.10) and the colors were lavender, dark purple, and orange.  purples were her favorite color, but she added the orange because they got married outdoors next to a field of sunflowers.

the purples and oranges were surprisingly lovely, and dramatic.

here's a pic:

that being said, i got married in november and my colors were lime green and aqua, so i don't care much for seasonal color rules.  it was a bit odd, though, when the church was decorated with fall leaves and pumpkins.  sigh.

I think you should do what keeps you and your hubby happy, first and foremost!  Cheesy

That said, I think that the yellow and the brown in the sunflowers is "fall-ish" enough for when the wedding is.

Not only is purple a great colour in fall, it's complimentary colour is yellow, so the contrast will be stunning.  Excellent choice!

I'm having a fall wedding next year and I am planning to do sunflowers too. I might accent them with blue bonnets, but plain sunflower bouquets look great too. I really like your second image. The purple goes great.

I have been trying to convince myself to not let the season control my theme and color selections...

Here are the ones I am considering:
Blue and Yellow

Sunflower only

I think those are lovely, especially the 2nd picture. If you don't want the traditional orange, red, or brown, go with it - it'll make your wedding stand out among the others at that time.

I agree 100%... Your day should be about you and your husband to be and what you all like.

Yeah, its not so much that I'm bothered by it not being seasonal enough but how it will work with the background. Things should still be pretty green but maybe not so lush. Originally it was going to be a snazzy night time New Orleans wedding but with us not wanting to budge on the date (so many halloween parties and VooDoo fest that weekend) we couldn't find a venue we liked.

But then I found this place...

That is the pavillion we are having the reception in (and possibly wedding if the weather is bad)

And this tree may be the backdrop to the ceremony.

Its so gorgeous out there. So now I'm changing everything we had planned to go with an outdoors/garden type wedding. I'm so excited about these colors now! Thank you so much! I feel really excited about starting my crafting!
