when I told my mother recently that I'd been knitting up a storm, she ran to her closet and pulled out an almost-finished scarf that she had made two+  years ago.  I had no idea that she knew how to knit and had never seen her knit anything.  She had forgotten how to cast-off and said that if I helped her finish her scarf that I could have the leftover ball of Matisse yarn.  And so, with half a leftover ball of Matisse and a ball of kilim lovely black wool, I made my mother a hat to go with her scarf.  I surely hope her head is bigger than mine...
