Awesome refurb! I think they would love some really bright paint or fabric on the inside, too.

I thought about painting the inside the same colour as my bedroom walls, or putting a piece of funky wallpaper of fabric on the back part.  In the end, I decided to keep the white for a while... I tend to go what ends up to be "a step too far" in my crafting!  Ha ha.  It's a cinch to take the back off and re-paint it if I change my mind in the future.
