When I saw this challenge, I knew that it would be perfect for my first entry. I tossed around ideas for a week or two, trying to decide what to do. I knew that I wanted to do some kind of picture with text, but I just couldn't quite make it look right in my head. Then I had a thought. Who said it had to be English text? I decided to use a portion of the Greek New Testament to make an image of a tree, beginning at my favorite verse - John 1:5.

I embroidered the tree in backstitch with one strand of embroidery floss. I didn't keep track, but I'd estimate that it took me 10-15 hours. The tree is composed entirely of the greek text.

I traced the outline of the tree from an image I found online, and then free-handed the text onto it. There isn't really a font - just my handwriting!

Of course, there are mistakes, and I had to keep reminding myself to look at the big picture. I think it turned out quite well, and I'm very proud of it.
What do you think?

I think it's lovely. I especially like the symbolism of the tree, verse and colors used.  Pretty neato!
