Peach and Green 50s floral pattern dress
«
on:
August 05, 2011 10:08:08 AM »
This one I made by grading up a vintage pattern. It was quite a bugger to sew. The yoke and the sleeves are ONE PIECE!
I had to re-size the arms (bigger) and it took me a few days to realize I had to widen the shoulder dart and then I could add width to the sleeves!
There is horsehair braid in the bottom hem, a-la 1950s...
So if you ever run into a similar pattern, just IM me here and I can give ya instructions on how to enlarge the sleeves without making the yoke bigger
Don't cha just love the color combo?!
The front detail is quite nice.
I enjoy wearing it so much!

I love the detail and it fits so well- you are a sewing goddess! I would probably have started crying and/or thrown the whole thing out in the process of trying to alter it.
The peach is lovely on you, too. Once again, your skin fills me with envy.

I think this looks gorgeous and you look totally stunning in it. I must say though I have a similar problem with belts... I like them but I find they never sit right. In the (not tons of experience but enough) times that I have made dresses that have had belts, I have changed it so that the the belt is not a belt but actually a strip sewn into the dress on that line. It changes the design a bit and does limit it because then you don't have the option of taking it off, but so many times I find that the belt finds it's way to high or it gets awkward in the back. However this dress is lovely.... and totally adorable. I would wear this in a heartbeat.

This is such an awesome dress! Wow. You are über-talented! Some day when I grow up I want to be able to do that kind of pattern altering.

Yes, a tomato pin cushion that has come alive and now eating the little strawberry that is attached to it!

Oooohhhhhhhh can you post another picture? I'd love to get a pincushion or something sewing-related for my next tat and I'm looking for ideas to use as a starting point. I'd really appreciate it if you don't mind.
