My jogless stripes look like crap.  I'm using the method described here: http://techknitting.blogspot.com/2007/01/jogless-stripes.html for 'stationary jogless stripes'.  Knit row one of the new colour as usual, and then slip the first stitch when knitting the second row.  Right?  

The first time I tried it it was beautiful.  Since then, it's not working.  I'm obviously doing something wrong all of a sudden, but I don't know what.  Any ideas?  Or any recommendations for a better way of doing jogless stripes?  Here's what they're looking like:
