My Inspiration:
"If I Could Be In Charge Of The World"
a poem written by my daughter, Ashley

Recently I was going through my kid's school papers and childhood keepsakes.  I was sorting, organizing, and eventually I got around to putting them away in the cedar chest.

I spent most of the day laughing, and crying a little at the fond memories.  Currently my son is 26 and my daughter is 23 and they both live 12 hours away from us.  I came across the poem my daughter had written when she was about 15, and I found myself reading it over and over because even though she wrote it 8 years ago, it describes the core of her fun loving spirit; a sweet happy-go-lucky girl.  Funny thing is, now she is a vegetarian who likes to read self help books and who really loves her brother more than anything in the world!
The featured FONT is: Visit Indonesia 2011, which I downloaded free from http://www.dafont.com/visit-indonesia-2011-2.font  I also used chipboard font cutouts found at the local craft store.

if i were in charge of the world
i’d cancel vegetables,
getting in trouble,
and awful animals.

if i were in charge of the world
there’d be bigger hoses,
bigger sodas,
and longer recess.

if i were in charge of the world
you wouldn’t have homework,
wading pools,brothers,
or have to pay bills.

if i were in charge of the world
all schools would have candy pencils,
all kids can mute their parents,
all books are what you like.

and a person who couldn’t read,
and sometimes forgot to feed the dog,
would still be allowed to be in charge of the world!

SUPPLIES USED

PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!
I was so glad to have an extra canvas on hand.
I just wasn't sure how the colors, tissue, and scrap paper were going to look.
I made several adjustments along the way.

I love it and love the poem so much, especially the last verse.  You have created a lovely keepsake for her. Thanks for showing how you did it and the materials you used.

The poem is good. Heartfelt - as words often are at that age.
Is your daughter now a writer?

No, she is not a writer per say.  She has a few journals and has always enjoyed doodling and jotting down her thoughts.  She is very creative and has amazing ideas.  She is my go to girl when I am stuck on a project.  Funny thing though my son majored in Business Marketing & has a minor in English, he writes everyday.
Thanks so much for asking.

Awwww, i love it Smiley what a nice way to display it too. My son's 4th grade class did that project last year in poetry. It's the Judith Viorst poem, the kids have a blast writing their own versions Cheesy

Thank you so much for providing information on the original poem.  I have been wracking my brain to try and figure out how old she was when she wrote this.  I believe this project was done either in the 5th or 6th grade.  Goes to show you when you save their work you should write down that pertinent information.
