so i was assigned to make three scupltures for school, and like any good student, i was putting it off 'till the last minute. then i saw the challenge, and thought i could totally do both! i got the book at a garage sale for 25 cents, so this is what i came up with (cut out pages for sea/garden, and used them in origami) im not sure what the font is, i think it's times new roman. i kinda made the origami up as i went/ remembered the ones i used to do as a kid, anyway, here it is  Cheesy

Clever - I like this - I liked that you used the book as the base- I really like the houses the best.  And the boat.  And the flowers.  And . . . all of it.  Interesting and unique.  I recently purchased some books at the Goodwill store, hardbacks, for $.50 each - Originally I was going to cut them up for the artwork and typed pages, but now I cannot bear to - Maybe if I keep them another couple of months, I will finally "dive" in.  Anyway - I like your work.  Cool

This is just... really beautiful.  It has a sense of simplicity while also being really intricate.  I'm not sure how to express it, but I really like this piece!

I've seen stuff like this before, but would have no idea how to even begin doing something like this. You did an amazing job, though! It really looks fantastic.

it really isnt all that complicated, it is time consuming though, i cut out pages in different shapes (starting with a square, then worked into smaller shapes) then used the pages for random origami, the giant flower was a wire wrapped in paper, you could totally do it  Grin

Beautiful.  My favorite part is the giant flower that stretches out at you.  Like the above posters, I too wish I could do stuff like this, but I can't bear to hurt books either.  (Maybe if I get some books that are already going to be destroyed...)  Anyway, fantastic job!

Since I work at a library and am constantly taking books out of circulation for damage reasons, I absolutely LOVE taking books home to craft on them!  (I would have entered this contest, too, if I had had a project that fit neatly into the deadlines!  The Harry Potter series is a gold mine because we have so many and they get checked out and checked out until their spines break!)  I really like how you carved into the book to give it depth in addition to your "pop-ups."  And I like how you use dimension to distort the viewpoint.  Very nice!

I love the rose! It would be cool to do this with an encyclopedia and make the 3d pieces based on the theme of the page (botanicals on the wild flower section, etc.)
