Having successfully made a wallet from pop tab crochet it was time to think big. Hence this messenger style bag made from 1601 pop tabs and lined with white from two old pillowcases (that my mother had already begun chopping up for another project)

On one side it has three little pockets for cellphones and the likes and on the other side there's a larger closed pocket where I've used some of the original pillow case to create the overlapping close of the pocket.

So Cool!!!  My boyfriends daughter and I saw a purse made from pop tabs on some random person in Laguna just a few weeks ago and thought it was the coolest.  I think it would be neat to make one too!  Did you get the tabs from somewhere, or from home?  We don't drink cans at our house, so I think that would require us to do some hunting for some.  Thank you for sharing, it's made so well.  Cheesy

It's beautiful and classic and it's pop tabs, how cool is that. What a great job you did on it.

I winged it. I knew the basics of how to crochet with pop tabs, and I learned that from a tutorial, but the bag was winged from start to finish with me drawing a sketch of the shape I wanted and then guestimating how many tabs I'd need in each row to achieve that shape.

We do drink canned soda at home so I got a few from here, but most of the cans are some that I've gotten through my cousin whose son knew someone who'd collected them for a while and then gotten tired of it. That got me a bag of 5000 tabs to work with, which is a lot compared to what I could collect from just my own household. My advice would be simply to keep your eyes open everytime you see someone drinking from a can or make an arrangement with someone who drink canned drinks to save all the tabs. Some places on the internet you can even buy packages with pop tabs. Oh and parties is a great place to collect too!

It looks great!
Like a silver bag, but much cooler since it's made from recycled materials.
Yay for your skills!

Oh this rocks! I will have to see how many tabs I've got...i've been collecting for about three years in the hopes of having enough to make something with. Now I know a number Smiley

WOW!  love your bag - i had started saving tabs for a purse ...only another 1553 more tabs to collect to make one of a similar size Wink  i think i will start small with a purse?  ..( yours looks cute in the bag- is that the one you made/)

Thanks for the photos though - it's looks like a really professional finish.  what did you use for the crochet?

The pink one in the bag was the poptab wallet that I posted pictures of here. It took a considerably smaller amount of poptabs to make that, so it might be a good start Wink

The crochet is some rather firm white cotton yarn from my mother's stash, but the pink was made with a much lumpier yarn, so I actually don't think it makes that much of a difference. More like it's just a question of how discreet or even you want it to be.

Good luck! Smiley
