Balsa wood sheet covered with the letters printed on presentation paper (not as thick as photo paper but no where near as flimsy as regular print paper). That was sprayed with lacquer. Once dried, I affixed the glass mosaic tiles.



ETA: I'm thinking I should have painted the wood black before decoupaging the paper on.

Thank you, they really do look amazing. I suspect it might be the lacquer that makes the difference. I don't think painting the balsa black would have made much difference, given the quality of the paper though.
