The purpose of this bag was actually to master a pattern to make a diaper bag for a cousin that is due soon. I wasn't sure how big I wanted it to be, so I decided to make myself a bag for storing my growing stash of craft supplies.

There are 18 different fabrics salvaged from the leftovers of several projects and bits of donations from people that slimmed down their own sewing stashes. And there are three colors of thread because the cute lavender-ish thread I used on most of the outside ran out... Then the light blue that I used for an Alice in Wonderland costume ran out... and then I wound up with a strange turquoise thread of whose origin I am unsure.

I'm really happy with how the outer shell turned out. I used fleece to make the pocket layers thick and a thick interfacing on the taller wall parts. (I think I will use fleece on the outer wall of the diaper bag because I don't like how flat it wound up on the top...

I also ran out of interfacing and just wanted to get it done so I could move on, so the inside is really floppy Sad

I pretty much love it. Did you draft the pattern? I need a bag like this, not a diaper bag because my kids are big, just a general all purpose don't-leave-the-house-without-this-stuff bag because, well, I have kids! LOL Cheesy.

This is a great idea - how clever of you to use up stash materials.  I love the scrappiness of it.   Cheesy

Thanks everyone!

Did you draft the pattern?

Yes! Well, kinda. I didn't make an actual pattern... I just planned the dimensions on a piece of paper and started cutting with my rotary tool on a cutting mat to measure Smiley I guess that is still a pattern. The toughest part was figuring out the top. I wound up doing it a different way for the diaper bag, and I think I was happier with the second method.

Here's a picture of my planning board for the diaper bag if you'd like to try, but it is only dimensions. (I changed them a tad for the diaper bag)
