Titania and Oberon, watercolor on paper

This one was inspired by another Craftster-er, who posted something similar months ago (I loved the technique, and practiced by doing a similar painting- if this violates any Craftster rules, I'll happily remove this post. I was just so pleased by the effect that I made a set and wanted to share. I'll see if I can find the post so she can get credit for my inspiration). I used liquid latex to mask off the white areas, and did a mottled effect over the rest, and pulled off the latex once it was dry. I call this one Titania and Oberon, after the queen and king of fairies in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Watercolor on paper, about 16" square.

I've got them all framed up now, so I'll post a better pic soon. This was right after I completed them (ETA: Done! See below- odd angle, I know, but I was trying to show a pic of them on the wall with as little window glare as possible).

ETA2: I posted this at the end of the thread, but I thought I'd better just tack it on here, too. I have thrilling news- a local art and gift shop owner saw a photo of these paintings on my Facebook, and asked me to create a collection to show at her monthly gallery exhibit and sale! I could just wet myself!!! I'll be showing at the end of October, and I'll be sure to post my creations along the way. Thanks for all the encouragement, I'm just over the moon that someone might actually want to buy my art!! (flails)  Grin Grin Grin

wow just stunning, i'll have to give it a go. I just wish i could find more pictures like it to get and idea of how its done, unless you don't mind a small tut. to show us how it's done

Ally, I used a tute here on Craftster for my first try! Check this one out- it has all the basics, although I didn't do the light box thing, I just free handed all the masked off areas (some with a light pencil outline). But the painting on of the latex is the very same!
