Ah, I forgot about Halloween!

I think my son is going to be Handy Manny which is no problem, all I need to do is get a red ballcap and a solid green T-shirt. He already has a mini-toolbelt and tools (and jeans and sneakers, of course). I might stencil or iron-on something Handy Manny on the back of the shirt though to help people out.

Don't know what I will do for baby girl, she'll be about six months old. I'm thinking of a chick or duckling outfit somehow because she makes really cute duck-lip faces but I'm too beginner of a sewer to make a costume from a pattern... Store-bought costumes are just too expensive now.

I know I haven't finished the chain for this yet, but I wanted to share. Cheesy The prototype wasn't turning out correctly, but this one is turning out far better. ^_^ I think once it's being worn it'll completely stay how it should instead of being freefalling a touch. :3

This is the necklace I'm doing for my aunt's birthday which is next Saturday. It's a chainmaille cross. The weave is byzantine. (The chain is a simple 1-1-1-1 chain) The rings used for it are a mixture of stainless steel 3/32" (Not sure what the gauge is) and I think anodized aluminum in either 18g or 20g (Idk which) 5/32". The chain is made from the stainless steel 3/32". I'm probably going to use a lobster clasp for it.

Where I'm at on it, including the chain

I,Kara, am committed to making a "Year of Homemade Gifts" from September 1, 2011 to September 1, 2012 with the following conditions: that if I am unable to make a gift for a person or occasion that it may be handmade by somebody else, be either secondhand and gently loved, or seriously discounted as to remain frugally responsible, or come from my gift closet. I also commit to sharing my successes and failures with the Year of Homemade Gifts Craft-a-long on craftster.

I love the birdseed ornaments!  Do you have a link to a tutorial?  We are always wondering what to get our bird- and squirrel-loving mother-in-law.

The chain-mail cross was also lovely.  Chain-mail jewelry has long been on my list of crafts to learn.

Most of our birthdays are in the first six months of the year, so autumn can be dedicated to Christmas crafts

Here's my list so far, to be updated throughout the year

September:
Best friend's wedding wedding dress

Christmas:
Jams (must get picking!)
Lemon curd
Birdseed ornaments
Aprons
Dresses for the little girls

February:
Two best friends turning 30!  - Jewelry?
Sister-in-law

March:
Husband
Niece
Parents
Brother

May:
Kids
Anniversary

July:
Godson

August:
Mother-in-law - Birdseed ornaments
Grandmother-in-law - pictures of the greatgrandchildren (digital), plant flowers

Jo_Mama:  Love, love, love the birdseed ornament favors!!!  What did you use to stick the birdseed together?

NotKnit:  So happy to see another craftser who celebrates Hannukah!  Do you give gifts each night?

Everyone:  I think I have an idea for my grandpa's 100th birthday, and would like to know what you all think about it....

Grandpa is a retired farmer.  He used to make this dried fruit candy (dipped in chocolate) every year to give away, but hasn't done it in years because he doesn't see very well.  I was thinking I could make a batch (he taught me how a very long time ago, so I hope I remember) for him and the other family members who will be there celebrating (I can even include the recipe on the family member boxes).

What do you all think?  Good idea or bad - I don't want to remind Grandpa of things he can't do anymore, but on the other hand he might like knowing his recipe lives on  Smiley

it's knox flavorless geletin.  100ml of boiling water + 4 packets (1box) knox + 400ml birdseed = 12 ornaments.  the process is fairly simple, but they will start growing "fuzz" after a couple weeks, so no making them now for christmas!

well here is my to-do list so far....

christmas
bf- no idea
mum- no idea
sister- no idea
three close friends- wedding album/scrap book for one, travel scrapbook for another and a necklace for the third (I'm planning to try resin for the first time, if anyone has any tips I'd be super greatful!)
bf's mum and dad- maybe a painting
bf's sisters- no idea
various aunts and uncles-christmas biscuits and bird treats (thanks jo_mama Smiley)

january
bf's birthday- also no idea

febuary
anniversary and valentines day- something twee and a bit sick-making probably  Wink

march
best friend's birthday-maybe a painting

april
two close friends-no ideas yet
mum-no idea

as you may be able to see, i'm not feeling very inspired at the moment. I'm hoping that seeing what everyone else is planning/making will help me get creative Smiley

fortunately I don't really do anything for halloween so thats one less thing to worry about, but considering that all the above are within the same five months the sensible thing to do would be to get started now. yeah, right...

x
