Ribbon woven QR code (picture overload)
«
on:
July 23, 2011 12:37:47 PM »
Hello
I saw this
QR-3D
project, and wondered if a simple ribbon weave would work. Here are some photos of my progress.
Interestingly, the actual ribbon code itself doesn't work, but a photo of it does - this must hide any imperfections. Although the actual weave was quite simple, it was hard work, as your eyes can go a little funny doing it!

Thank you for your comments!!!! Everytime it actually works I am really impressed - the magic of technology! For those without a barcode reader thingy on their phone the QR code goes to my
blog
(very unimaginative I know!). The
QR-3D
people are arranging an exhibition, so fingers crossed it will get picked.
If you are interested there are some amazing QR-3D codes in their
flickr pool
.
Thanks again

This is so cool. I totally plan on using this in someone's Christmas gift, though I'd probably lean toward a cross-stitched version. Or perler bead version?

I am really impressed by this. I just took a class in ribbon weaving so I really want to have a go. I am curious to know what you did about the places where the ribbon goes over or under several threads at once. How did you make it stay in place? Did you stick it down with fabric glue or what?

elderflower - when I did it, I had the edges stuck to a board with masking tape to keep it still. Once it was finished I carefully (very very carefully) pulled it off the board (with tape still attached) & sewing machined round the edges. It means that there is a still a bit of movement in the piece, but hopefully by securing the start & the end of each strip it won't fall apart.
Hope that makes sense?
