We had a royal wedding party the weekend that Prince William and Kate got married, because my mom won a party kit from somewhere... Anyway, she wanted to order cupcakes that looked like mini wedding cakes and I said, "No way! I'll make them myself!"

The cake part is strawberry cake with crushed fresh strawberries & strawberry Jell-O added to a strawberry cake mix, if you're wondering. Smiley

I got the idea for making flowers out of candy from the book What's New Cupcake? (that I got for free from a certain website where I had accumulated points for rating music... yay free stuff!). I had bought a bag of flavored Tootsie Rolls and decided to try them for the flowers. They turned out pretty good in my opinion.

The cupcake stand was even free, since a friend bought it and never used it. (Can you tell I like free stuff?)

To make the Tootsie Rolls into flowers, I heated them in the microwave for 5-10 seconds, then used a rolling pin to roll them out into an oval shape. I cut off the top and bottom of each oval to make "petals" and rolled up the part that was left to make the inside of the flower. Pretty simple once I got the hang of it.

To make the leaves, I cut up the green Tootsie Rolls into 3 or 4 pieces and rolled them out. The flowers held up better than the "leaves." Our house was hot & humid from all of the cooking we did, so they kind of melted.
