The DIY Academy put on by Zapp kicked of on Monday, June 6th.  What is the DIY Academy?  Here's some info from the catalog:

DIY Academy is a series of low cost workshops that will enrich your life and local Seattle culture through the do-it-yourself movement.  DIY is affirming, sustainable and really fun!...

You can find more information and a list of classes on their website at http://www.hugohouse.org/diy.  It looks like all the classes are only $5 each and include supplies!

very cool!  I've been looking around for good places to take workshops (in the US). has a thread like that already been started?  wouldn't a roadtrip/DIY tour be fun?

Stitches donated some supplies and raffle items for the kick-off party last Monday.  The party was pretty fun.  They had bands, shrinky-dink making, sock puppets, stenciling, decopage and more.  There is going to be another party at the end of the event for everyone to show off what they made/learned.

I'm a knitter looking for an introduction to crochet, this sounds perfect.
There are so many other great classes listed, I won't be able to decide.

My daughter and I had a great time at the fairy princess class yesterday. The location was great for crafting and the teacher (www.candiland.com) was fabulous.

Thanks, stitches for posting this - I hope to take waaay more classes next summer.
