Can anyone tell me what embroidery floss is called in Oz? I'm having a heck of a time looking for online resources. And Lincraft doesn't seem to have a very good selection (the one time I made it to Hyperdome). Any Queensland sources for embroidery supplies? But a really thorough range of colors?

I tried online resources from another posting but couldn't find floss.

I'd appreciate any help. I don't drive here yet, so I'm hesitant to ask my partner to make the trip to Brisbane (more than an hour away) just to look randomly for needlework shops. We're house sitting near the Gold Coast for another month. The next house sit may be much more rural so I'd like to stock up as soon as possible.

Thanks so much!

Some stores call it embroidery thread.

Spotlight carries DMC & Anchor, Riot art stores have a cheap brand.

ETA - If you get really desparate, I can go down to my spotlight & get some & send it to you. Postage wouldn't be much because it's light.

looks like there's a Spotlight down the road in West Burleigh so i'll check it out. thanks for the offer tho!

i hope they have the full line of colors. i need to choose from the whole range of DMC threads (or Anchor equivalents) for some specific projects. i couldn't find any embroidery thread in their catalogue.

any needlework only shops? they tend to have more selection.

Spotlight near me has a huge range of colours - but then, so does my Lincraft. If they don't have the colour(s) you need though, I'm sure they could order it in for you. (Especially if larger stores have them in stock, they can get some sent over from other locations)

Thanks, SilverMoon. I wasn't impressed by the selection at the Lincraft at Hyperdome. But that's the only place I've gone. Will definitely check out Spotlight. I never thought to place an order if needed, duh!  Grin

Most 'local' independent stores will stock a selection of embroidery threads too. DMC is the most common brand. I find the lincraft store in North Canberra to be really disapointing, and I always have trouble finding stuff in Lincraft stores, I'm much more fo a spotlight fan! (and Wagga is getting a new warehouse style spotlight too!!!!)

I hope you find what you are looking for. If not, I have purchaced embroidery thread from ebay and also from Ozstitch http://www.ozstitch.com.au/

Heh I went to North Canberra's Lincraft and was disappointed, however I like Canberra City's Lincraft but am not a huge fan of Queanbeyan's Spotlight.

There is a website (Canberra Based) called Crafty Frog. She is a needlework only style shop.

The Owner is VERY lovely - I wanted to make a plastic canvas village piece for my Christmas village. But here in Australia it is so hard to find the right materials - The owner was more then happy to order them in for me.

She does hold a lot of needlework supplies, and several American and British brands.
