I wanted to make something out of the neat tea cans I was drinking from. So I made two wind decorations out of them.  I used a big circular hole punch for the hanging circles and a little hole punch for the holes to hang the big circles.  I used wire to connect the pieces, added some beads, and ta da!

I'm in college so I go through a lot of notebooks for my classes, so I used notebook wire on this one instead of throwing out the wire.  I also covered the sharp edges on the top piece with a little bit of fabric.

And finally, I made some can flowers to spiff up planters around the house.  Once again, I reused notebook wiring for the flowers and I just used old beads I had laying around for the center of the flowers.

This is awesome.  What a great way to spruce up old cans.

They're really not hard to make, if you have the cans you should try it!

Neat!  I love the idea of reusing notebook wire.  You are a top-notch re-user!  How did you cut the top of the can (the part the circles are hanging from)?  Do scissors do the trick, or wire clippers?

I used scissors, but it's not the best way for a clean cut or a straight cut.  If you want a really nice straight cut, I'd recommend filled the can with water and freezing it, then using a table saw to cut it.  It'd simply be better to do that way, but I haven't done it mostly because I don't like using saws (I'm prone to cutting myself on things so a saw would be a bad idea for me).  If you don't want to use a saw, I used a razor once.  The cut was cleaner but more crooked.  Certainly gives it character when it's not even though. I hope that helps!

Thanks.  Good to know that scissors will work.  The saw idea sounds smart, but I'm with you--pretty wary about using them, and I don't own one so I couldn't even if I wanted to ;-)

If you're going to use scissors, it might be fun to try those scissors that make patterns when you cut.  I don't have any to try, but it'd be neat to see how that turned out.
