One of my latest hobbies is cooking with as many fresh and basic ingredients as possible. I decided I HAD to try making bread, and my first two attempts were successful! Both recipes were found in a general search on allrecipes.com, and if anyone is interested, I can track down the link to them. Smiley First I made 3 loaves of plain wheat bread. Even my super picky boyfriend loved it!

The second experiment was a baguette recipe. I adapted it and threw in some fresh rosemary and thyme from my garden, and this was the en result:

It turned out so tasty! I will be making bruschetta with that tomorrow!
If anyone has any tips, I would LOVE to hear them! This is a completely new experiment for me, and any help is appreciated!

They look tasty. You've got a lovely glaze on them and the first loaf looks to have a great even texture.

They look great! I wish my first attempts at bread-making were quite as successful. I for one, would love to see the recipes you used if you can find them? Love the idea of the Rosemary and Thyme too, yumm!

I am a big fan of the flour and the recipes found at www.kingarthurflour.com!

I make a white-wheat-oat-flax seed bread whose basic recipe came from the back of their bread flour.

I was able to find the baguette recipe easily, so here it is:

Haha showing this shows how little my baguettes look like everyone elses, but oh well. They are still tasty. I added about a tbsp each of rosemary and thyme finely chopped, so those flavors are there, but not overwhelming. And as far as the glaze, it was a simple egg wash, although I'm considering using much less of it next time: they were not very crispy at all.  Undecided

I will continue searching for the recipe for the wheat bread I made!

I found the wheat bread!

In the recipe, I substituted wheat flour (king arthur's) for all flour called for, and I also substituted oatmeal for cracked wheat. It was just too expensive at safeway to buy cracked wheat and I couldn't bring myself to do it on my first loaf of bread.

I love making bread....I just love bread. I have a new favorite recipe that I think is just amazing.


I did not use bread machine yeast, I used 2 1/4 tsp of active dry yeast. I added it to the milk mixture, but I also heated the milk mixture up a little more to get the yeast going a little better.

You are very welcome, I hope you love it as much as I do. I was going to bake a loaf today but never got around to it. If I had a bread machine I'd make it all the time.
