gypsy suncatcher!!!

my partner in the buttons swap - ms fiddlegirl8 - aside from being a total sweetheart, also has awesome taste! when i stalked her wists, i found this: http://charmednblum.blogspot.com/2009/10/gypsy-wind-chime-3-finished.html
i thought they were gorgeous and instantly knew i wanted to make one! so next time i hit the craft stores i went on the hunt for mixed chains, geegaws, and some jewel-like buttons! here is what i came up with! since it's made from mostly different types of plastic buttons instead of glass beads, i decided it's more of a suncatcher than a chime....



i didn't happen to have any nice curvy organic looking branches in my collection - but when i got to hunting thru what i did have, i got the idea to use this seashell! a few minutes with a drill, and i had the perfect hanger! originally thought the convex part of the shell would be the front, but then pulled the lil birds-on-a-branch charm from my stash and got the idea to hang it in the concave part - so happy with how that turned out!!



plus a lil button egg for the birdies

ps just a heads up - all of these buttons came from the quart bags of mixed buttons you can get at hobby loby or michaels - they're generally 4.99 and they're usually at floor level on the bottom of the button displays, and there are always amazing treasures to be had in there!!!

I love this, erica_tattoos! The use of the shell was very clever and all of the bits, bobs and buttons are great!!!

I love those bags of mixed buttons. They are so cheap and I always find great treasures in them too.
