Crystal Tie-Dye

Here is my method for crystal tie-dye! Materials and space:

I like to tape a garbage bag to the floor whenever I dye, it make a nice work space that you don't have to worry about cleaning up afterwards!
Materials:
*Dye (I am using RIT and Dylon here) in at least 3-4 complimentary colors
*Shake bottles (old salt/pepper shakers, or old spice containers work great!)
*Dust mask (especially important when working with the powder like this!!!!)
*Jars or cans (28oz cans work great) lined with plastic
*Washing soda or soda ash (especially if working with fiber reactive dyes) dissolved in water
*Fabric to dye
Transfer your powder dye into the shakers (wear your mask!):

Wet your fabric either in the sink, or let it soak in a pot of water:

Sprinkle your dye colors onto your work surface:

Wring out your fabric and arrange it onto your sprinkled surface:

Sprinkle another layer of dye on top of your fabric (this gets both sides without having to flip your fabric):

Gather your fabric...

...and place it into the lined jar:

Dissolve about 1/2 cup of washing soda into a pitcher of water:

Pour the soda mixture into the jars. Just enough to cover the fabric:

Drain off excess liquid:

Press fabric down into remaining liquid:

Now the tough part. Cover with the plastic, and let sit for 12-24 hours:

I let mine sit for about 12 hours, then I squeezed out any excess liquid and threw them right into the washer.

Happy Dyeing!!!!
