My mom is super special and her birthday is tomorrow. I wanted to make something extraordinary, so I decided to challenge myself to translate her favorite photo of my dog, Pockets, looking at some birds at the beach.

I made this for my mom for her birthday. It is completely made of fabric, wool as the surf, and different threads. It's like a fabric painting! You can read more about how I made it at http://wp.me/pJudZ-a7 I tried to be in depth and descriptive.

I was so intimidated, but then thought myself ridiculous and just gave myself permission to play around. I also learned that perhaps my new area of focus for the next one will be BINDING  Roll Eyes

I can't wait to make more of these. I have so many ideas. By just doing it already, I naturally learn where I can improve the next go-round. I don't have money for classes, so I will get books from the library or look up how-to videos on Youtube. For my birthday, I got a subscription to Quilting Arts, and this month features portrait quilts.
