I get to start off the gallery! I received my wonderful package from Spidersweb today. She made some beautiful pieces. My ancient culture was the Celts.

First off is a book I've actually never heard of (which is impressive) and a pretty hand painted pouch that held my smaller items

Inside was a beautiful barrette, two awesome sets of earrings and a lovely necklace. The necklace has 9 drops for the 9 maidens whose breath fueled Carridwen's cauldron of inspiration. The earrings match the necklace. I put them on almost as soon as I took the pictures

Here's a close up of the decoupage barrette

Now for the gorgeous large piece. I'm a follower of Arianrhod, so she made me a moon-themed wall hanging! I'm jealous of anyone who can do needlework since it's one of the few crafts that I can't. Ready for awesomeness?

Here's a close up so you can see some of the wonderfully done stitches and painting

Thanks for being an amazing partner, Spidersweb!!!

My package from Squire_inaria came over the weekend, but I was out of town, so my neighbor took it for me.  She only let me know that today.  (I love my neighbor!)

I was BLOWN AWAY by what was inside!

Ancient Cultures swap, pt 3 by Spidersweb, on Flickr
I'm sorry that's a bit blurry-- my kitty was ALL about the wrapping paper and box, and was in the way.
From top left: a poppet of Cernunnos, the card on top of celtic/prehistoric symbol coasters, ogham rune 'stones' and a pretty bag, a bracelet, and a necklace.

I am spoiled!  Do you see the poppet, do you?!?!?!  This is the first poppet I have ever gotten and holy frijoles!  After I had played with him for a bit (and tried to decide if it's weird if I think he's rather MRAWR for a poppet), I put him on display with the SCA er, Princess of Ireland Barbie that a friend gave me a few years back.

Ancient Cultures swap, pt 4 by Spidersweb, on Flickr
I think he likes it there.

Then I put my necklace on.  Thank you-- it is the perfect length, which is always difficult for me to find.  (I have a big neck and the standard necklace size is too small.)  I wore it around for all my errand-running today!

I received today! I only got in 3 photos before my camera batteries died, but I got everything at least once Cheesy. If you have better ones Manic, go right ahead and post them. I was shocked to see the huge box it came in, but I'm so thrilled the painting is in 1 piece. I love it SO much!!!! Also, the necklace, is beautiful. How did you do that? And the earrings are adorable, I have to fix one of them as the wire/metal ended up breaking a little and will go in (but not come out of my ear). And this book, thank you for giving me something to read! I have misplaced my nook and I've been going crazy. Cheesy I need something fun to read in my teaching class! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Ignore my mess, but I can't wait to read this book. It's about a female viking who found the "new world" Smiley

Sailing along the Fjord, drinking my Mead..... love this painting!!!!! AMAZING!!

Really bad photo, is bad. But I love these. So amazing. Cheesy

Thank you SO much Manic!

Oh I'm so glad it got there ok!  Not sure why the hook broke but one of mine did too so maybe it was a bad batch, I'll see what I can hunt up on etsy or artfire in the way of handmade hooks, we might be better off.

There are some videos on viking knit chain and double viking knit chain on youtube, they even have this thing called the Lazee Daizee™ tool for making it, I used a wooden dowel from the craft store myself, this time though I used a square one and it sped the process up a bit since it was easier to keep the rows even on their own "side" rather than on the round dowel; it's amazingly simple to learn and I'm far from mastering it but it is uber fun and very pretty.

The book, well, that was the best history based book I've read in awhile lemme tell ya, they should do something on Discovery about it cause it was uber neat!

So glad you like everything  Smiley :::happy dance:::

I finally got around to taking pictures off all of the stuff kyerinn sent me.  My chosen culture was the Aztecs, and she did an awesome job. Things that I listed as my favorite aspects of the Aztec were the god Tezcatlipoca, smoking mirrors, and lunar gods. On to the goodies!

First is this set of jewelry made with hematite beads to represent smoking mirrors. There's also a skull on the necklace which is perfect as it's a symbol of Tezcatlipoca as well.

Next is this adorable hoop. It shows the rabbit in the moon, as that's what the Aztecs saw when they looked at the moon. I love the fabric choice, and I love the way she did the back of the hoop, which i don't have a picture of, but she included a ribbon to hang it by.

Finally, there is this cross stitch that I love! It's some of the titles that Tezcatlipoca holds. It's just really neat to look at.

Thanks for everything Kyerinn!

I'm terribly late posting pictures of the amazing package kuckyjune sent me, so let me correct that right now. Smiley With LOTS of pictures!

I chose ancient Egypt as my culture, and this is directly from my q'aire: "Are there any particular symbols/gods/pictographs you like? I love Anubis and Bast, Isis with her wings, ... the eye of Horus(Ra)." Wow, did kucky come through on that!

The other items were inside this one:

I sat with my mouth literally open for a few seconds when I saw it, and then grinned like a fool. Look how perfect her stencilling is:
I love the sparkliness of the collar, her eye, and her tail-ring. Smiley
She even decorated the inside of the bag with a handmade potato stamp (which was one of my clues!), stamped the border with styrofoam (clue!) and put in a handy pocket:

This is one of my favorite swap items ever!

Okay, so there is more awesomeness! Once I quit drooling over the bag, I pulled out a bunch of goodies, including this spectacular woodburning (clue!) that was wrapped in crochet:

I am in awe of her talent; look at her clean lines:
and the color on the wings is pieces of glass (?): My crappy pictures don't do it justice!

There was this nifty pouch with more flawless stencilling and a cute decorative border:

and it had some fun little extras inside, as well as a velcro closure (clue!):

Also, see the Anubis stencil (which is, of course, perfect! Smiley)? The whole package smelled amazing, and that is why: it's a sachet filled with the tea that she used to dye the bag (clue!).

As if all that wasn't more than enough, she sent me rocks!, some oyster shells, some fabric remnants, paper!, and a pretty card in envelope that cracked me up (one of the things she wrote is: "A shepherd's hook and cat o'nine tails? Egyptians were kinky!" LOL

And here is everything all together:

Sorry for the poor picture quality.
I absolutely adore everything- it's such an awesome package! Thank you, kuckyjune! You are so talented! Smiley

Grin I'm so glad you like it!! Yes, the color on Isis' wings is glass from a mosaic kit I have never used. The kit says the glass has been tumbled so as not to be sharp, but I'd still keep it away from little ones if you have them. I have to admit, giving up the bag was hard, I was so happy with the stencil. Its the first time I've used screen printing ink as opposed to fabric paint, it seems to come out much cleaner.

I was delayed in posting my goodies from PaleAngelLex and will remedy this now!

First off, she sent me a vast array of lovely jewelry, three bracelets and and a necklace in gorgeous shades of jade. (Jade was very important to the Mayans.)

Next is a fantastic hoop based on Mayan artwork. It's a mixed media piece combining embroidery with paint. I like the technique and may have to experiment a bit myself. Smiley I also like how the frame is painted black.

And finally, a wonderfully stitched needlebook that she included after she realized that I am a fellow stitcher. I love it! Brown and blue are one of my favorite color combinations and the Mayan glyph on the cover is perfect.

Thanks so much for the fabulous crafts, PaleAngelLex! Cheesy

I'm glad that you like what I made for you. I had a lot of fun making it all.

Also, I found that at a Ben Franklin craft store. I wish I remember the name of the company it came from. There were two when I bought it, and when I went back the next day, the other one was gone too. It was just so perfect because it fell into the green/blue spectrum that was so important to the Maya. And you should give hand stitching a try, it's not bad if you just back stitch.

Ok, here I am! Sorry I'm so late posting pics!! I recieved an awesome package from Dragonflower:

First up, I mentioned the Greek Story of Arachnia, not knowing Dragonfloer doesn't like spiders. Roll Eyes
She muscled through enough to make me these gorgeous earrings:

She would never wear them, but I love 'em!

Next, an awesome burned and stained?/painted? Pandora's Box, with hope still inside:

I accidentally cut of the quote, but its Emily Dickenson

Also, this lovely hope neckalace, that she enjoyed whacking with a hammer   Cheesy :

Maybe my favorite of the lot, a B-Movie poster version of the story of Persephone!!! I LOOOOVE this!:

Another cool, bejeweled box:

Some really cool Celtic cross stitch patterns (she didn't even know I cross stiched!) that I might use for the Hoopla Swap:

Cute little birdie post its and a really cool fossil. What is it Dragonflower?

Thank you so much, Dragonflower! I love it all  Grin

Oops... I forgot to tell you- it's fossilized coral. Smiley We have it all over the place here, that piece was picked up in a nearby creek.

Also, the box is actually stained with food coloring. I got a bunch of old powdered food coloring, like for icing, from my grandmother and I've been trying to find different ways to use it. I thought it turned out pretty well.

I'm really glad you like the Persephone artwork! I thought you would, but I was nervous about it. Smiley

Huh, I thought I'd left a message already, but I think my computer ate it  Roll Eyes could have been the meds the docs gave me the other day though, rofl.

I so want those cross stitch patterns and I don't even know how to cross stitch, lol, maybe it's time to learn.  Love the other goodies too especially that box of Hope.  Wonderful!

Can't wait to see the pics from our last two, international mail is like a turtle sometimes, ya know?  Of course book rate mail is the same way here  Grin

So here's the great stuff I got from Nat! Everything's so beautiful..

Everything arrived packed in a blue bag which included also a postcard and amazing sweets (really, they are addictive.. and gone Cheesy):

A mysterious sea box:

There's a coral hiding an ancient coin inside (isn't this a great idea?):

A pastel blue journal:

And the last, biggest thing is an amazing crochet shawl. Unfortunately I managed to take only this one bad photo before my camera died. So here's how it looks on me and later I will also send a close-up (without me Smiley). It's so beautiful!

Thank you so much Nat!!

Love it! What lucky swappers we've all been; one more package left to see, did you happen to take photos of it before you mailed Anofeles?

I have some bad last-minute photos in my cell phone and a better picture of my big item in dad's camera (at least I hope it's still there, I'm not home now). A few days ago I found out mom didn't send the package via air mail, which is probably the reason why it's taking so long Sad It was he first time mom was sending something for me and I didn't think about it at all Sad I already told Nat I'm sorry. Now I just hope the parcel won't get lost. If it won't arrive in Australia in a week or two I'll start crafting another package.

Ooohh, yeah that would do it  Wink It's no sweat I've had a letter take a month from England to here because the sender sent it regular and that was just a letter between two very large mail hub cities, lol.

As for the photos they're handy to have in case you do end up having to remake, I always try to take a snap or two of everything & I've got a small album going of swaps I've been in, maybe I'll end up doing an actual scrap book some day! I just love how much fun this stuff is  Grin

Oh, I so wish I could have been in this swap... I'm reading Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic studies at Uni and I'm a real fan of the Celts. All the stuff in here is amazing!

Hi everyone,

NatACT has been having camera troubles (I sympathise - my camera was out of action for a couple of months and it drove me mad), so I'm posting pics from the angel package I sent.

Nat's chosen culture was Egypt, so I made her an Isis hoopla:

A fimo cartouche necklace (which I'm hoping spells NAT - I used a heiroglyphs-alphabet translation I found online):

And a senet board:

That is an awesome package knitpurl! Thank you for posting the photos, now I can consider the swap completely finished. I love the way you made the senet board look ancient and that hoopla is something I'd hang on a wall myself it's just lovely, the cartouche idea I'm going to borrow for a holiday gift  Grin  Thank you again for being an angel!!
