My sister in law just recently had her first baby (and the first grandchild for my husband's side of the family Smiley) so I embroidered some baby bibs. I knew it was a boy, but we had no name confirmation yet, so no monograms or anything.

I got the package of multi-colored terry bibs at Target for this. And actually I now realize I didn't take a closeup of the yellow one I embroidered with a blue duck. Shoot. There was also an orange bib that I started embroidering an UrbanThreads lion on. It was utter fail and thus is not included here. Anyways. Smiley

The high-centered cow, rocket ship and alien spacecraft are all slightly modified UrbanThreads designs. The rest are original.

I tried to keep the backs as need as possible, which was a first for me.

The rocket ship it totally my favorite.

That little red bird gave me way too much trouble considering how little it is. The first attempt when I showed my husband got a "Oh....that's...a bird? Huh." So I redid it.

Yeah, my sister in law said "Oh, a cow!" And I was all "...it's a hippo. Sad " Oh well, female hippos are called cows, right? Close enough for me! Smiley

Aaaand alien closeup.

Thoughts and crit are welcome. Thanks for looking!

These are adorable. Did you use any type of stabilizer, since terry is stretchy? I've tried embroidering through this type of bib before, and I had a really hard time.

Thanks everyone! Smiley

i am totally going to steal this idea when i have a baby Grin. awesome!

Me too. ^_^ I'd start now and put them in storage but that might freak my husband out since babies are still a ways away for us haha.

All so nicely done!  I love them all, but that little flying saucer is so-o cool!  Cheesy

That's my father-in-law's favorite--he likes to give the peace sign and a "Peace" when he leaves family functions. My husband and his sister do it too so I thought that made the bib really apropos. ^_^

I didn't use any type of stabilizer. I had some trouble with the first bib I worked on, the orange fail bib I mentioned before. But for the most part I just used 4-6 strands (2 for the alien, I believe?), used my embroidery hoop and tried to pay attention to the tension as I sewed. I think using a thick chain stitch for most of it helped because it sits so much on top of the fabric, you know? It made small detail harder to do, but didn't pull the fabric too much.
