Here's my Dumpster Dive Challenge Entry.

Truthfully, this should have been in the dumpster or burned.  It's my husband's recliner from his bachelor days that he refuses to get rid of.  The upholstery is a crusty old beige cord. There were little holes all over the fabric, along with one massive one that is more than obvious.

But he loves it. He sits in it every day and before we got our Sleep Number bed, he often would sleep in in it. Now it sits in our office with a Devil's Rejects throw blanket hiding the worst.
A couple of years ago, I stumbled upon a jeans covered recliner here on craftster. That's when I knew I wanted to recover DH's recliner, and vowed that when I had collected enough old jeans it would happen.
Fast forward to April 2011, I finally had enough jeans! I cut 2 different size blocks, 5"x5" and 10"x10" and began piecing them together. This was the most time consuming and back breaking part of the construction.
I then took an old bed sheet and turned the recliner on it's side to get a pattern. I could have removed the old fabric and made a pattern from it, but it is such a poor condition I feared it would be more hassle than it's worth.

After many hours of cutting and sewing and stapling and hot-glue, on June 4th it was finally done!

There's even pockets on the side for whatever he wants to stuff in there!

And my Grand total spent on this project?  Nada, zip, zero, nothing.  I already had the supplies in my craft bin, and my husband's recliner has been saved from the landfill.

And my husband's reaction when he saw the finished product? "YOU RUINED MY RECLINER!"

haha, he was just kidding and he loves it too.

I absolutely love this! We just sent a recliner in nowhere near this bad of a condition to the goodwill... My hubby is quite the opposite of yours... He likes to unclutter. Truth be told, if he weren't in my life, y'all would be seeing me on "Hoarders" one day lol Wish I'd have seen this beforehand.. How could he deny me a fun and useful craft project Wink Well done!!!

Wow thanks for the positive feedback.
It probably took me three years collecting jeans and I did cut most of the blocks as a pair of jeans were deemed unwearable.  I estimate there were about 6 pair of jean shorts, and about 12 pairs of his jeans (I had 1 pair that I threw in there).   He would throw them in the trash and I would pull them back out, and he could not fathom why I wanted to keep them.   I can't even estimate the actual time it took, because I did it a little at a time over a two month period.

That is amazing! Your chair looks great! So much hard work, it looks very comfy. I like the extra pockets. Well done!
I need to recover the old rolling office chair I have, that my husband will fall asleep in. It's getting ripped and worn. I may have to steal this idea...

kukyjune- Thanks!  My husband is the type of collector that will not keep the toys in the box.  He wants them out on display to enjoy.   He has many more that's not in those pics, our apartment is crawling in horror.
