I've been wanting to do one of these for ages and since my laptop while a normal size on it's own, with the extended life battery fits in *nothing* I decided to go ahead and use this http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/2009/05/elizabeths-fabric-focus-5/ tutorial to make my own sleeve ... I had all the supplies already (hooray for my supply hoarding) so cost = $0.  Aside from a measurement error which forced me to seam rip half of the flap after it was already completed (but before attaching it) I think beginning to end it took about 2-3 hours (my measuring mistake easily took an extra hour so I am not counting it).  My machine definitely protested in sewing through the final layers but did it without jamming or anything with a little coercion.  I didn't use the fusible fleece as the tutorial suggested though it would have been nice.  Normal fleece worked fine too.

Cool.  It's such a nuisance having a non standard item, but you've coped with it admirably.

Thanks!  I am quite pleased with it... A couple of friends have already requested I make them one with my supply stash too.  I am excited to perfect it even more for them!
