A Man, a Photoessay, and a Placemat {img rotund}

Always wary of the time, our fearless Mr. Man finds himself confounded today, as to just what time it is...

Instead of just consulting the watch on his left arm, he decides to consult his horological tie.  'Cuz that makes sense.  What he finds out, of course, is that it's dinner time!

"Waiter!" he yells, with a charming mix of hostility, compassion, and rabies.

A busty, unseen serving wench promptly appears (or disappears) with a handmade piece of table accoutrement. 

Our intrepid diner is astonished by the high-quality appliqué and top-notch finishing work.  He is also dog-gone hungry.

As if by magic -- busty, unseen magic -- his plate appears.

As he does not get out much, this is enough to amaze him for a week.

However, trouble ensues when our inveterate eater encounters a forkful of difficulty with his utensils.

Try as he might, our hungry hero could not lift the fork from the placemat upon which it was satin stitched. Not even with his feral, ferocious fangs.

Unashamed of crying in public places, he cried in this public place.

Just as all seemed lost, all was suddenly found.  And by all, we mean, of course, silverware.

Now the succulent meal he had been waiting for lo these many moons could commence.

Don't let the twiggy arms fool you; this is a man who loves to eat with great aplomb.

Of course, as this photo-essay might suggest, he also loves to drink.

My sister is moving into her own apartment (after 2 years of playing musical roommates and dumpster-diving for housewares) and requested "red placemats".  I couldn't just do that.  Following an idea I must have seen on Craftster, in a manic wonder-under marathon, I created these for her, plus matching napkins.  Ironically, the appliqué of the forks' tines was not nearly as arduous as the hemming of the napkins.
