Maybe they do not participate...some states have their own programs...I love the summer special olympics...the "kids"--because some are really young adults...have so much fun and their enthusiasm is contagious!  I haven't done a lot of research on the winter olympics...not sure what events are planned...off to go look... wow snowboarding, hockey, skiing, ...what fun!  In my state, PA, it is going to be held in Johnstown near Pittsburgh...next year is the International Special Olympics to be held in Korea!  I bet the scarves are going to be red, white and blue... Cheesy

Hmmm... I can't imagine that MA doesn't participate. Maybe MA and RI combine? No matter! The scarf goes to a good cause no matter what state I send it to!

If I ever finish one, of course...

Thanks guys for your support  Embarrassed

Sorry I am in and out. I am still having a hard time with my loss and it is hard for me to put on a happy face when I feel so empty. So rather than faking it, I am just going to post when I feel good enough to. It is also going to get harder because her remains are coming back, I have been scrapbooking for the LV swap and she is in it 3 times, and also we are headed back over to NH for the weekend where we were there with her on her last week with us before she showed signs of being sick. I just may have to continue my scarf while I am there to help get my mind off of it. So you may see me around, or you may not for a lil bit. I am still reading though! Getting myself to feel good enough to post is the issue at the moment.

kittymom13 - Congrats on finishing the scarf! Looks awesome!

You do what you need to do, sweetie...we will keep this going until you feel like hanging out again...we understand...I do think keeping busy for a good cause will help a bit...

Anyway, I am going to send in the scarves that I did already so that the organizers can get started on a count...then I will be getting more yarn...keep on posting your progress everyone!  Plus, I need to borrow some more patterns Grin

Take your time, Alisha; no loss is easy to 'get over'.  I find crafting is a great companion, tho -- gives you something to focus on when you need distraction, or gives you a physical activity to free up your mind -- whichever you need it to be.

And this thread, with all the creativity you sparked, will keep rolling!

Heres my fourth; its a pattern called Hearts, Hugs and Kisses that was created for the Special Olympics.
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hearts-hugs--kisses-scarf

A very nice, lacy pattern that knit up pretty fast the original called for US size 10 needles, but that was a little too lacy.  So I used US size 9, and added two stitiches to either side it came out about 8.5 wide.  And still I have some of the blue and red yarn.  Maybe just one more.

Beautiful, yofi!

I can't imagine anyone not loving any of the scarves that have been posted!

I am heading out for a "craft weekend" this weekend, and I'll be toting my scarf pattern and yarn along with me. I should be able to get a whole scarf done this weekend! Not as much as some of you, but at least it's a start (and it's a good thing RI is such a tiny state Wink ).

I get a big kick out of imagining the response from the recipients when they get the scarves.  They won't be seeing anything other than *their* scarf.  And feeling the respect that some unknown person out there had for *them*.

Makes every scarf so special!

Yofi--I guess that is why we do these types of projects...imaginin g the joy of the recipient is a powerful thing...it is amazing still to me that something I make can bring someone else a smile...yeah, it would be great to be there in person, but that is not always possible...

warm and fuzzies to all of us!! Cheesy
